大约是八七年上大二的时候第一次听到这首歌。在这之前，我一直以为圣诞歌曲就是“铃儿响叮当” 。感谢那位上过教会学校的“比较文学”老师蔡先生把这首歌介绍给我们。当时觉得很不一样的感觉。后来出国前夕的一个下午，心力交瘁，曾在等着女儿挂吊瓶的床前一遍遍地轻声唱这首歌，好像想从其中汲取一种力量。后不久来到北美。现在每年圣诞期间都会唱起这首歌，希望继续找到欧亨利的小说“警察与赞美诗”的里所描写的那种感动。值此圣诞，分享给朋友们。嗓子的状态不是很对得起这首歌，但情绪到了。栈内肯定有很多朋友能演绎得更好！

最新注释： 19号下了今年的第一场雪，这是家附近的公园，不是我家后院哈。作秀充数啦。本来要秀蒸的的包子，但与歌曲太不搭了。下次啦！另外，我将刚唱的中文版也加上了。中文版伴奏相当不错。

这首颂歌1818年12月24日第一次在奥地利欧本多夫当地的尼古拉教堂演出。Mohr在此之前2年就已经写出了歌词，但是在这个平安夜他才带给Gruber，请求他编一首吉他伴奏曲子。这样做的原因不明；可能Mohr只是想为午夜弥撒作一首新的颂歌，也有传说当晚尼古拉教堂的管风琴不能工作（故事一个流行的版本说因为老鼠咬坏了管风琴的风箱）[3]。
