Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) shares plummeted in the extended session Wednesday after the chip maker's outlook and revenue fell short of Wall Street estimates owing to weaker-than-expected graphics sales. AMD shares tumbled 18% after hours, following a 9.2% drop to close the regular session at $22.79 . The company reported third-quarter net income of $102 million , or 9 cents a share, compared with $61 million , or 6 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were 13 cents a share. Revenue rose to $1.65 billion from $1.58 billion in the year-ago period. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated earnings of 12 cents a share on revenue of $1.7 billion . "Client and server processor sales increased significantly although graphics channel sales were lower in the quarter," said Lisa Su , AMD chief executive, in a statement.
